The Earth is Flat

This series of landscape images references mid-twentieth century abstract expressionist work both in its title and visual style. In extolling the work of modern artists Jackson Pollock, Willem De Kooning and others, the influential critic Clement Greenberg highlighted the “flatness” of their paintings. As with the work of the midcentury masters, this body of photography eschews three dimensionality and represents Earth as a flat plane consisting solely of line, color and texture.
